Let’s Get Going
Here are a some ideas for ways to spend your time on the water and have an enjoyable cruise. The times for each trip can vary depending on your interest and possible side excursions to include a picnic that you might want to bring along and eat in a quite cove or possible stopping to get some ice cream.

Eagle Island/Admiral Peary’s house
Bailey Island Military Preserve
Lowell Cove former home of Lowell the Whale
Approximately 2 1/2 hours
Although the island is not open as usual due to Covid-19, you can still visit the island. It is a very pleasant ride from Potts Harbor out to Eagle Island where you can be dropped off on their dock. You will be able to walk around the outside of Admiral Peary’s house as well as take a hike around the island. Some of the vistas from around the island are awesome. When you are finished exploring you will be picked up and brought back to Potts Harbor.

Island Tour
Potts Harbor, out to Bangs Island where they cultivate their famous Bangs Island Mussels, then following the chain of islands passed Chebeauge and Cliff Islands. Ministerial Island makes for a nice stop for a picnic.

The Gooses
Head out of Potts Harbor and turn northeast between Whaleboat Island and South Harpswell, continue on to the Gosslings. This is an attractive set of islands worth the trip. If lucky you might see many seals relaxing on and around Grassy Ledge. We then follow along the set of islands and come around to a very scenic and relaxing cove which makes for a nice place for a lunch or a simply a place to relax for a few minutes. Then we continue back between Whaleboat Island and Little Whaleboat Island and back home.

Halfway Rock and the Islands
Cruise a few miles out into Casco Bay and get a close-up look of the light that arks the midway point between Portland and Cape Small (boundaries of Casco Bay). Then head back through Eagle Island, Cliff Island, Bangs Island (home of Bangs Island Mussels).

Bailey’s and the Bridges
Go out around the tip of Bailey’s Island, head northeast toward Gun Point Cove and through the small Orr’s Island bridge, then head back towards the Cribstone Bridge, up the Merriconeag Sound and home.

Cundy’s Harbor and Back
Head out around Bailey’s Island, then northeast and following the shore around to Cundy’s Harbor and Holbrook’s wharf where you can get an ice cream, lunch to go, and a drink. Then head back around Yarmouth Island and up along Quahog Bay, to the Cribstone Bridge at Bailey’s Island, along the Merriconeag Sound and home.

Cape Small and around
Head out around the tip of Bailey’s Island, go eastsoutheast passed Ragged Island and over to Cape Small near the mouth of the Kennebec, follow the coastline north to Sebasco Harbor, then to Cundy’s Harbor, and following the shoreline back around to Bailey’s Island, under the Cribstone Bridge and home.

The Big Loop
Head out through the Cribstone Bridge, over to Cundy’s Harbor, up the New Meadows River, through the Gurnet Straight, up the Long Reach, through the Ewin Narrows, go the length of Harpswell Sound and home.
Approximately 4+ hours and is dependent on the high tide.

Perhaps you have some of your own ideas about how you would like to spend your time on the water. There are plenty of ways to do it. You might want to stop in a quiet cove and have lunch, hop out onto a beach for a swim, stop and get something to eat. All of the above trips can be modified to meet your needs.
